SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - U.S. Rep. Ben McAdams is rescheduling town hall meetings because Congress is expected cancel its typical Martin Luther King Day holiday break as the government shutdown drags on.

The Deseret News reports McAdams said in a statement Wednesday that he hopes the new times are not too inconvenient for his constituents.

McAdams will hold one town hall on Saturday in West Valley City and another in Lehi on Feb. 19. An open house at his West Jordan office is now set for Jan. 26.

Town hall meetings became an issue in his race against two-term Republican Congresswoman Mia Love as he criticized her for holding few meetings open to the public.

Love maintained she was more effective meeting with voters in smaller groups or online.

McAdams, a Democrat, narrowly defeated her in November.
